Food Waste Collection System Development

by Admin on 八月 1, 2021 in Uncategorized

In July 2021, the Environmental Protection Department initiated a groundbreaking project funded by the Recycling Fund aimed at developing an innovative food waste collection system. This system features a smart bin designed specifically for food waste disposal, promoting sustainable practices among households.

To use the smart bin, users must download the government app GREEN$ and generate a personal QR code. This QR code activates the bin, allowing users to dispose of their food waste. The smart bin is equipped with a weighing mechanism that records the amount of food waste disposed of and sends this data back to the government data center for credit calculation. Users can earn credits based on the weight of their disposed food waste, which can then be redeemed for various items provided by the government through automated machines.

The primary goal of this smart bin initiative is to encourage households to dispose of food waste properly, as households account for approximately two-thirds of the total food waste generated in the city. Once collected, the food waste will be transported to a dedicated processing plant where it will be converted into compost and biogas, contributing to a more sustainable waste management system.
